JUNE 2024
Dear Aeros:
In 2001, when I resigned from the last job I have ever had, I met with my boss and thanked him for generously arranging one of his fleet Learjets and crew to fly me, my family, and friends to my 10th year Dalhousie law class reunion. Jack was truly an exceptional employer and mentor to me. (Jack had an undergrad degree from MIT, an M.Eng in jet propulsion from Caltech, and a medical degree from Harvard.)
At the meeting, I said "Jack last year I took your jet to my 10th year reunion, you have inspired me to take my own jet to my 20th year and I can't get there from here while I work for you. I think he understood. (After resigning and as a courtesy to Jack I returned, off payroll, to South Africa one last time to complete a business deal for the company. )
Jack introduced me to the world of private aviation. And what a world it was. Over a five-year period we bought 25 business jets from Learjets, Challengers, Gulfstreams, Westwinds to a 747SP. We put them into operation throughout the US, Singapore, China, and Hong Kong. I frequently travelled on these aircraft, getting to know their strengths and weaknesses, capabilities and issues. It was an experience I shalll never forget. I was 37 at the time.
As it turns out, thanks to my incredible team, when the 20th reunion came around in 2010 I could afford my own jet. But it was not until a few years later that I stopped overthinking things and just did it. The rest is history.
I recently came across Joseph Nguyen's book "Don't Believe Everything you Think". I highly recommend it. It's available from Amazon. The thesis of the book is not to overthink things to the point you become paralyzed from making decisions. With my travel patterns it just became clear that I needed to take the plunge. Now that I have one, the costs just get budgeted in and a sense of calm prevails. It's a whole different world, on so many levels.
I created AeroOne so that others can experience the same joy of jet ownership, the same peace of mind, without the having to go up the same learning curve as me.
Happy Flying,
Roger Proctor, CEO

Bombardier Article Summary Points:
-
Bombardier, having spun off its other business lines, is now dedicated solely to developing and manufacturing heavy, advanced business jets that are the very best in the world (Global Express and Challenger).
-
Bombardier will continue to provide after sales support for its legacy models including Learjet.
-
The post pandemic world has created a two-year backlog in new orders.
-
Company is getting its financial house in order by reducing their debt-to-earnings ratio to 2x.
-
Company is well positioned to develop defence products from its existing corporate platform. (Gulfstream is owned by a major aerospace defence manufacturer.)
Four Takeaways (opinion)
-
Bombardier is now focused on the Fortune 100 / Billionaire Club buyer market. AeroOne is focused on the first-time buyer as well as current ultra-light owners looking to move up in range, capacity and support infrastructure.
-
Learjet legacy models continue to outperform and outclass, offering superior reliability compared to light and midsized aircraft offered by Cessna and Embraer.
-
Pre-owned Learjets have much lower capital cost and lower operating cost than Cessna and Embraer. Those costs are further reduced through AeroOne's co-ownership program (not to be confused with expensive fractional programs.)
-
All Learjets are twin-engined and require two-pilot operation. This is safer than the single-engine-one-pilot alternative when flying IFR missions.
-
When looking for a heavy, long-range jet, nothing beats a Global Express.
AeroOne specializes in aircraft sales and management of top--pedigree pre-owned Bombardier products.
What do you think of these viewpoints? We would love to hear from you. Got questions about a particular aircraft make or model? Call or email us. If we don't know the answer we would be happy to research and report back.
