AeroOne™ Newsletter

May 2025

Dear Aeros:

On April 30 the Classic Lear Jet Foundation launched a four-day polar circumnavigation mission to raise funds for the restoration of Learjet 23-003, the first customer-delivered Learjet back in 1964. The mission was flown by a Learjet 36A, the super long-range derivative of the Learjet 35A. The flight took off from Bombardier Building 14 in Wichita on April 30. The 1976 Learjet 36A N31GJ successfully traversed both the North and South Poles before returning to Wichita May 5 in record time after weather delays. To our knowledge, no other aircraft ever has previously attempted such a flight, let alone completed the mission. AeroOne contributed financial support to the mission and six AeroOnerepresentatives were there for the launch party held April 26. Check this video out.  Try that in a 50 year old Cessna (or new even) without a single mechanical event.

The Learjet 30 series family is no stranger to world speed records. In 1976, Arnold Palmer, a professional golfer, used his Learjet 35 to create a round-the-world record. Total travel distance was 22,894 miles. The trip took him 57 hours, 25 minutes and 42 seconds. Palmer's record held until 1996 when Bill Daniels, a cable television founder, managed to complete the round-the-world flight in his 1983 Learjet 35A in a mere 49 hours 21 minutes and 8 seconds. Commercial jets today would be challenged to beat that. Daniel's record was unbroken for another 22 years, making Learjet's domination span an incredible 42 years.  To this day, even with a plethora of new light jet models entering the market the Learjet 35A still is #1 in range and #2 in speed in its class. And that's why we love it so much. Of the 673 built, over 400 are still in operation as of January 2025. (Source: Simply Flying Jan 27, 2025). This ensures parts supply for many years to come. Parts are more readily available for these aircraft than fresh off the assembly line Cessnas. (That's a fact. I know because Jet Logistics operates Cessnas.)

In our January 2025 Newsletter we predicted that demand for private jets will skyrocket as newly minted American multi-millionaires enter the market during the new Golden Age, which is just getting started. Make no mistake, notwithstanding recent stock market turmoil, Wall Street will not be the leading indicator of success and wealth during this new era. This will be the land of opportunity for the first time entrepreneur and the rebirth of the middle class. And with these new times, demand for good pedigree legacy aircraft will be so strong it may outdo the demand of the Dot.com era with longer lasting effect. During the last high-demand era used aircraft values appreciated up to 50 percent every 6 months from 1997 to 1999. I was there and experienced this first hand as a young buyer.

If you are considering acquiring an aircraft within the next three years I would like to suggest you don't wait to consider options that may best suit your needs down the road. It takes 6 months to a year to take delivery (longer if new) and you will not want to miss out. Give us a call. We love to talk aviation.

Happy Flying,
Roger Proctor, CEO

PS: Our trip to Wichita was one leg on a six city, five day business trip--Boise ID, Wichita KS, Tulsa OK, Scottsdale AZ, Coeur D'Alene ID, and back home. Flawless performance on schedule. A business schedule like this is not possible flying commercial. The goal is to do it cheaper than charter. We did it less than a quarter of charter cost.

Jet acquisition / co-ownership (not charter or jet cards) will offer beneficial accelerated depreciation schedule carry over. 100 percent capital write down in year one. If this measure is extended the best time to buy a jet will be in calendar fourth quarter.
