AeroOne™ Newsletter

SEPTEMBER 2023 - Issue 2

Message From our President

Dear Aeros:

We pushed the button early on our September Newsletter.  So please enjoy our one-time Extra Edition and take a walk down memory lane.

We are fortunate today to have so many airlift options at price points accessible to everyone. It was not always like this. In 1960 the cost of a Pan Am return first class ticket from NYC to London was $550.00.  The US median cost of a house at that time was $11,900. Today, its $5,730.00 return first class JFK to LHR  on American Airlines verses $410,000 for a house. That's one-third the relative cost 60 years ago. Aircraft efficiencies, deregulation and competition are wonderful things!

What about jet ownership?  In the 1960s the Learjet 23, heralded as one of the first truly personal jets of its day, was purchased by Frank Sinatra for $660,000 in 1965. That was 55 times the cost of a new house back then. Today, comparable new aircraft cost between $7million and $9million. That's also, relatively speaking, one-third the of that era.

With AeroOne, today's acquisition cost of your jet could be less than $500,000 for an improved version of Mr. Sinatra's--giving you the freedom to fly twice as far but just as often as he did.

And if you are like Mr. Sinatra and decide to "move up"  from a light jet to heavy, AeroOne is at your service. Whereas Mr. Sinatra paid $7.8million for his Gulfstream II new in 1968, AeroOne offers the truly world-class Global Express starting at just over $4million today.  Fly three times as far, faster, higher, in sublime comfort for a fraction of the price.

So what does all this mean? Well, our airlift purchasing power has increased relative to hard assets such as a house. AeroOne's singular goal is to enhance purchasing power.  Sadly, however, the quality of the commercial airline experience has gone down drastically since the 60s golden era of Pan Am. Comparing the dread of Air Canada "service" today verses private, the difference has never been more stark: https://www.foxbusiness.com/lifestyle/air-canada-passengers-kicked-flight-refusing-sit-vomit-covered-seats

And commercial is about to get a whole lot worse with renewed calls for pandemic restrictions, service reductions due to pilot shortages (ie last week's Air Canada announcement regarding Western Canada route reductions), climate action restrictions (ie France prohibition of < 2 hour domestic commercial flights), etc. This was the main reason I got my aircraft at the start of the pandemic in May, 2020.  So, if you are like me and value your time, well-being, and lifestyle, commercial is becoming less and less tolerable. That leaves charter, jetcards, fractional, or outright jet ownership (AeroOne) as the viable alternatives. Over the coming months we shall be analyzing these different options, comparing them and making recommendations in an effort to help you make an informed choice.

This month, we compare:
  • the NetJet Global 7500 fractional program to AeroOne's Global Express co-ownership.
  • commercial, charter, Netjets and AeroOne options for two popular city pair return trips: YVR to LHR and YVR to PHX.

Remember, business jets are not a luxury. They are a necessity for people like you and me.

Happy Flying.

President's Message Feedback
Question:
an Aero asks why do I need to travel to 8 cities for 12 meetings in 6 days this week when we have Zoom and Teams online options?

Response:
Online meetings are not as effective as face to face contact where your client can fully assess your credibility, strengths, (and weaknesses). On April 7, 2023 I was invited by a longterm Genex Capital client, whom I had never met, to have dinner with him and his wife in SC during the Masters Tournament.  As you may recall, the local weather at the tournament that day was stormy and I was just coming off a 7 city, 60 hour business trip, looking forward to heading home from Norfolk, VA. But I accepted, had a wonderful dinner, and then immediately took off for YVR, sleeping most of the way in one of the lie-flat club seats.  This week we received confirmation of a multi-million dollar deal arranged by this client, choosing to work exclusively with us.  We have done business with this client for over 10 years but until now his firm has never been exclusive. While we may never know if that impromptu visit sealed the deal, but one thing is for certain, I could not have made it to dinner that evening without my Time Machine.

NetJets Global 7500 v. AeroOne Global Express
Compare NetJet's 200 hour quarter share with AeroOne's 200 hour quarter Co-Ownership program.
  • AeroOne's Global Express is preowned but will look new inside and out.
  • The Global Express has only 600 nm less range than the latest 7500.
  • AeroOne's offering is 5 times less expensive to buy and only half the hourly rate.
  • With AeroOne, you actually own your jet, and you are not forced to sell after 5 years.  Not so with NetJets.
Both jets look virtually identical side by side.  Which option would you prefer? Please message us and let us know your thoughts.
Commercial / Charter / Netjets / AeroOne?

Traveling from YVR to LHR or YVR - SDL (Scottsdale), return? Curious about the difference in cost for you and your friends flying commercial, charter, Netjets (fractional), or with AeroOne (full ownership/co-ownership)?   We did the research and share the results below so you can make an informed decision.

YVR RUNWAY CLOSURE UPDATE

As you may be aware, YVR Runway 26R (one of two main runways) is being closed for an extended period of up to a year apparently on account of extensive repairs.   As such, starting immediately all aircraft movements will require departure and landing slots.   Currently there are 72 slots per hour allocated.   During the shut down slots will be reduced to 48 per hour.  Only 2 slots per hour will be allocated to general aviation (that's all private aircraft combined).

We expect charter will be most affected by this reduction.  AeroOne sits on the YVR Committee that oversees the slot process and extended service reduction.  We are continuing to monitor and will advocate for our owners.    We look forward to providing updates as things develop.
