Welcome to 2026. How did you get around this Holiday Season?
If I were a conspiracy theorist I would claim the private jet industry organized Thanksgiving and Christmas to fall at year-end so worn-out travellers could rethink their New Years resolutions and have eleven months lead-time to make jet ownership part of next year's holiday festivities.
Studies show that only 8 to 10 percent of people actually achieve their New Years resolutions. There can be many reasons for this. In my opinion, the two biggest barriers to private aviation are (a) high tolerance for pain and suffering; and (b) a lack of confidence one can afford it. I'm talking actual ownership. Regarding (a) pain threshold, maybe consult a sadomasochism expert? As to (b) aircraft affordability, AeroOne's solution demonstrates you are richer than you think.
I got my first taste for private when I was recruited by my biggest client to leave private law practice to help his company acquire and grow a small three-aircraft operation in South Florida. I was 36 years old. Over the next five years, together, we created a wholly-owned 25 heavy jet international Part 135 operation that flew pretty much anywhere in the world. Shortly after I joined, the owner lent me one of his 35s for my 10th year law school reunion. While I worked for him I frequently travelled on his jets for business but that reunion trip was an eye-opening experience that I just never forgot. When I resigned five years later I told my boss that I took his jet to my 10th year reunion and I wanted to take my own to the 20th and I couldn't get there while I worked for him. As it turns out, it wasn't until the Covid pandemic that I decided, damn it, it's time to get my own. That was five years ago. Last year we flew it to the 35th year reunion, finally fulfilling a 25 year dream.
